{"id":24116,"date":"2012-10-19T11:06:25","date_gmt":"2012-10-19T05:36:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=24116"},"modified":"2012-10-19T11:06:25","modified_gmt":"2012-10-19T05:36:25","slug":"12-year-trial-ends-with-rs-500-fine-on-gambler","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/12-year-trial-ends-with-rs-500-fine-on-gambler","title":{"rendered":"12-year trial ends with Rs.500 fine on gambler"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In New Delhi after 12 years of trial, the court has convicted a man for gambling after he pleaded guilty and slapped a\u00a0fine\u00a0of Rs 500 on him.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday\u00a0Metropolitan\u00a0Magistrate\u00a0\u00a0Arvind Bansal, in an order pronounced, held Anwar Malik guilty of gambling in a public place.<\/p>\n<p>The court said in the order sheet made whcih available on Thursday.\u00a0 &#8220;Accused Anwar Malik submitted that he wants to plead guilty for the offence with which he had been charged,&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The court observed that the accused pleaded guilty voluntarily under the Public Gambling Act.<\/p>\n<p>Magistrate said &#8220;The court is of the considered opinion that the interest of justice would be met if the convict is sentenced to pay fine of Rs 500.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the prosecution, Malik was found gambling in central Delhi&#8217;s Hauz Qazi area on November 4, 2000 and arrested.<\/p>\n<p>The court framed charges under the Public Gambling Act on May 29, 2004. Malik then denied charges and claimed trial.
