{"id":24154,"date":"2012-10-20T10:55:44","date_gmt":"2012-10-20T05:25:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=24154"},"modified":"2012-10-20T10:55:44","modified_gmt":"2012-10-20T05:25:44","slug":"rape-cases-to-be-filed-without-delay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/rape-cases-to-be-filed-without-delay","title":{"rendered":"Rape cases to be filed without delay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gurgaon Police will henceforth file first information reports (FIRs) against men accused of rape without any delay.<\/p>\n<p>This is one of the steps being taken to check rising crimes against women in Gurgaon, a township in Haryana bordering Delhi.<\/p>\n<p>And to monitor heinous crimes against women, a district-level committee has been set up under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner P.C. Meena.<\/p>\n<p>He said the committee will keep a close watch on crimes against women and ensure that there is no delay in such cases at any level.<\/p>\n<p>Meena directed officials to register FIRs promptly if a woman in distress approaches police, and not insist on a &#8220;compromise&#8221; between the warring parties.<\/p>\n<p>The district attorney will oversee each case and pursue these in district courts. He will ensure speedy trial.<\/p>\n<p>Meena said, \u201cIf a rape comes to light, a FIR should be lodged against the accused without delay after getting the victim medically examined.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rather, it would be proper to get a DNA test conducted on both the victim and the accused so that the latter does not escape punishment in a court of law.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gurgaon Police will henceforth file first information reports (FIRs) against men accused of rape without any delay.
