The CBI said to a special court that former union health minister Anbumani Ramadoss had taken a decision contrary to the central government’s assurance to the apex court on an issue linked to a medical college.<\/p>\n
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told Special Judge Talwant Singh that Ramadoss decided to grant permission to the medical college to admit students.<\/p>\n
His decision allegedly contradicted the government statement in the apex court that it would not grant permission to admit students in Indore-based Index Medical College Hospital and Research Centre (IMCHRC).<\/p>\n
According to the CBI counsel\u00a0“The minister (Ramadoss) decided to constitute the central inspection team to inspect IMCHRC despite the fact that the centre had told the Supreme Court that it will not give permission to the college to admit students for the second batch on the basis of the Medical Council of India recommendation”<\/p>\n
The CBI submission came while it started argument on charge against Ramadoss and others facing charges of allegedly granting permission to admit students to the medical college which did not have sufficient faculty members or clinical infrastructure.<\/p>\n
According to the charge sheet filed by the CBI in April, Ramadoss abused his official position to grant permission to the Indore-based institution to admit students although it lacked adequate facilities.<\/p>\n
The Medical Council of India and a panel appointed by the Supreme Court said that the Indore-based college lacked faculty members and clinical material required as per the norms, it said.<\/p>\n
The bail had also been granted by the court to cabinet secretariat director K.V.S. Rao, health and family welfare ministry section officer Sudershan Kumar and Safdarjung Hospital’s J.S. Dhupia and Dipendra Kumar Gupta.<\/p>\n
