Maharashtra trial court’s order to the CBI has been stayed by the Supreme Court to place before it the cell phone call records of Dr V G Patil, who was killed in September 2005 allegedly due to political rivalry with former President Pratibha Patil’s brother G N Patil.<\/p>\n
The order which was given on an application by victim’s wife Rajani Patil, who alleged her husband was killed because of his rivalry with G N Patil has been stayed by a bench headed by Justice B S Chauhan.<\/p>\n
The trial court had ordered the agency to produce the call record of the victim on a plea by his wife, who had contended that her husband’s killing due to political conspiracy can be established with the call records.<\/p>\n
The agency approached the apex court after the Bombay High Court refused to interfere with the trial court’s order.<\/p>\n
Additional Solicitor General Siddharth Luthra contended that the CBI had a statutory right to prove its case in trial proceedings and Rajani Patil should not interfere in it and refuted the allegation that G N Patil is involved in the case in any way.<\/p>\n
The case was initially probed by the state police which came to the conclusion that he was murdered because of financial dispute but investigation was transferred to the CBI on the high court’s direction on February 23, 2007.<\/p>\n
V G Patil, who was the president of the Jalgaon District Congress Committee, was murdered on September 21, 2005.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
