Centrally Empowered Committee has been appointed by the Supreme court of India for the approval of selling of 56000 trees to widen Delhi Agra highway.<\/p>\n
The recommendation has shocked and surprised the environmentalists who are of the opinion that the destruction of trees on such a large scale would cause extensive damage to the environment in the area.<\/p>\n
Counsel for Pollution Control Board Mr Vijay Panjawani has even doubted the integrity of CEC members and has alleged that the Supreme Court is being misled.<\/p>\n
Environmentalists have demanded compensatory planting of trees to make up for the damage to the environment.<\/p>\n
