Three important agreements for extradition of citizens of one country to the other, and for extending any legal assistance sought by one country from the other in the investigation of criminal as well as civil cases has been signed by the\u00a0India and Azerbaijan<\/p>\n
The agreements were inked by visiting Justice Minister of Azerbaijan Fikrat Mammadov and Indian Ministers.<\/p>\n
The Extradition Treaty was signed by Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed on behalf of India. The Indian signatory to the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal matters was Home Minister Sushil kumar Shinde, and the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Civil Matters was signed by Minister for Law and Justice Ashwini Kumar.<\/p>\n
India and Azerbaijan have deep historical ties. The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1992 after the central Asian nation became free of USSR.<\/p>\n
The economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and India has been rising of late. In January-October, 2012 trade turnover between the two countries was 1.46 billion.<\/p>\n
In April 2007, then Minister of State for Commerce and Industry of India Jairma Ramesh visited Baku for setting up the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation between Azerbaijan and India.<\/p>\n
The first session of the Inter-Governmental Commission was held in 2009 here. The second session of the IGC was held in April last year.<\/p>\n
