Suspected ISI agent held with fake currency notes in UP Lucknow: Anti-terror squad of Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday arrested a suspected ISI operative and a major supplier of fake currency notes in the state from Kaiserbagh bus stand here, a senior police official said today. “ATS arrested Imran Ahmed Teli alias Munna alias Aftab alias Sammer from the bus stand while he was waiting to board the bus to Rupaideeha in Nepal,” said ADG (law and order) Arun Kumar.<\/p>\n
“As many as 502 fake notes in the denomination of Rs 1,000 each wrapped in Pakistani newspaper, bus and railway tickets, two hotel bills and several sim cards were recovered from his possession,” he said.<\/p>\n
According to police, Imran, a resident of Bihar’s West Champaran, had gone to Birganj in Nepal to assist his brother-in-law and uncle in the trade of spices in 2006-2007 but following losses in business he came in contact with Sajid Ansari of Raxaul in Bihar, who was engaged in smuggling of counterfeit notes.<\/p>\n
Later, he also came in touch with major players involved in the racket and started working from Kathmandu and Birganj.<\/p>\n
However, after almost all of them were caught and imprisoned the accused met Aslam Pakistani in Birganj jail and became the one of the main supplier of counterfeit currency and gradually came in contact with ISI and underworld agents.<\/p>\n
According to Kumar, Imran has confessed pushing Rs 15 to 20 crores worth fake notes in Indian markets. “Imran who has been to Pakistan twice, had been assigned the task of sending boys for training by ISI and Lashkar-e-Taiba besides for spying in the army,” Kumar said.<\/p>\n
The ADG expressed confidence that vital information about ISI activities and smuggling of counterfeit notes was likely to emerge in interrogation of Imran for which efforts would be made to take him on police remand.<\/p>\n
