{"id":29945,"date":"2013-08-29T13:33:48","date_gmt":"2013-08-29T08:03:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=29945"},"modified":"2013-08-29T13:33:48","modified_gmt":"2013-08-29T08:03:48","slug":"pakistan-top-court-drops-contempt-notice-against-imran-khan-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/pakistan-top-court-drops-contempt-notice-against-imran-khan-2","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan top court drops contempt notice against Imran Khan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pakistan&#8217;s supreme court on Wednesday dropped a contempt charge against former cricketer and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader\u00a0Imran Khan.<br \/>\nThe notice had been brought against him for his use of the word &#8220;sharamnak&#8221; in a press conference July 26 in reference to what he called inaction by the judiciary and election commission over alleged rigging in the country&#8217;s general elections in May this year.<\/p>\n<p>According to local media reports, Khan on Wednesday told the court that he never criticized the judiciary.<br \/>\n&#8220;Why is it being misconstrued&#8230; I only referred to the returning officers and never named the supreme court or the superior judiciary,&#8221; Geo News quoted Khan as telling the court.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My entire struggle has been focused on an independent justice system,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The PTI came third in this year&#8217;s general elections winning 35 of the 342 seats in the\u00a0National Assembly.
