According to the Tihar Jail practice, undertrials who are sentenced in a case get the formal prisoners’ dress and shifted to sections in the prison meant for convicts.<\/p>\n
Convicts Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma were lodged in jail number 7 while Mukesh and Akshay Thakur were sent to jail number 4.<\/p>\n
“They have been lodged in the same cells in which they were earlier. Their jails may be changed if it is required later,” an official of Tihar jail told IANS.<\/p>\n
After getting the official white dress, the convicts would undergo a medical checkup, he said.<\/p>\n
Depending upon the medical report, a suitable work would be allotted to them for performance during imprisonment, he said.<\/p>\n
The four men, who were convicted on Tuesday, and were sentenced to death by a court in the brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old woman in a moving bus on December 16, 2012.<\/p>\n
The trial court’s decision will now be sent to the Delhi High Court for endorsement and the process may take about a month, said the jail official.<\/p>\n
