Justice Prafulla Chandra Pant was Friday sworn in as chief justice of the\u00a0Meghalaya\u00a0High\u00a0Court.<\/p>\n
Governor KK Paul administered the oath of office to Pant at Raj Bhavan. He was a judge at the Uttarakhand High Court prior to this.<\/p>\n
Justice Pant, 61, succeeded Justice Toom Meera Kumari, whose term ended over two months ago. Since her retirement, Justice T Nandakumar Singh was officiating as the acting chief justice.<\/p>\n
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Law Rowell Lyngdoh and assembly Speaker Abu Taher Mondal were among those who attended the swearing-in ceremony.<\/p>\n
“My duty was to try to understand the problem of the people, particularly the ligitants, lawyers and stakeholders. I will try my best to do the needful to redress their grievances,” Pant said later.<\/p>\n
