{"id":31698,"date":"2014-01-13T12:22:13","date_gmt":"2014-01-13T06:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=31698"},"modified":"2014-01-13T12:22:13","modified_gmt":"2014-01-13T06:52:13","slug":"now-men-ifesto-male-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/now-men-ifesto-male-rights","title":{"rendered":"Now, a &#8216;men-ifesto&#8217; for male rights"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"ar_fulltext\">\n<p>The National Coalition for Men (NCM) &#8212; a forum of 50 organisations fighting for male rights across the country &#8212; launched itsown manifesto expressing concern over the steady rate of \u201cinnocent men\u201d falling victims to \u201cgender biased\u201d laws.\u00a0Titled \u201cMen-ifesto\u201d, it carries a host of issues concerning men and the need for governmental provisions to address those issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s time for the country to introspect. Just to prove ourselves gender neutral, haven\u2019t we become anti-male? The need is to create a men\u2019s ministry and a men\u2019s rights body to bring out gender equality and social justice,\u201d said NCM convener Amit Gupta.<\/p>\n<p>The NCM will meet political parties across the country and urge them to acknowledge men\u2019s rights in their manifestos. The NCM expressed concern over increase in the misuse of \u201cgender biased\u201d laws which have led to men committing suicide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the complainant is a woman, in every case, men are presumed guilty until they are proven innocent. Even a frivolous accusation against a man makes him lose his job, is looked down upon by the society and is treated like a criminal,\u201d Gupta said.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the NCM\u2019s demands include making laws, including the Domestic Violence Act gender, neutral so as to protect men against domestic violence and facilitate rehabilitation of men who are acquitted.
