Counsel (for the various authorities) present here are highly sensitive to garbage piling up in the city but very little action has been taken to resolve the issue,&#8221; Justice G S Sistani said and listed the matter for further hearing on July 28.<\/p>\n<p>The court also slammed the Land and Building Department (LBD) which said land acquisition will take time and urgent acquisition can be made only in case of a natural calamity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What else is a calamity if sitting atop a stinking pond is not? Let some calamity occur due to the rising piles of garbage and then you can acquire land&#8221;? the court said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The only headway that has been made is the six parcels of land measuring around 18 acres that Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has handed over to MCD,&#8221; the court added after perusing the status report submitted by the land-owning body.<\/p>\n<p>It directed MCD to &#8220;file an affidavit stating how they propose to use the six sites and the timeframe for the same&#8221; after the municipal body contended that the land handed over by DDA is &#8220;extremely insufficient&#8221; for the purpose of setting up an integrated plant to process garbage for which at least 75 to 100 acres of land is required.<\/p>\n<p>In response to MCD&#8217;s contention, DDA submitted it does not have 100-200 acres of land for handing the same over to the municipal body.<\/p>\n<p>(Source: PTI)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Delhi High Court today termed as &#8220;most unfortunate&#8221; the lack of headway made by civic bodies here in acquiring land for managing the garbage piling up in the city.
