{"id":35101,"date":"2014-09-05T13:58:57","date_gmt":"2014-09-05T08:28:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=35101"},"modified":"2014-09-05T13:58:57","modified_gmt":"2014-09-05T08:28:57","slug":"p-sathasivam-sworn-kerala-governor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/p-sathasivam-sworn-kerala-governor","title":{"rendered":"P Sathasivam sworn in as Kerala Governor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam was on Friday sworn in as Kerala Governor.<br \/>\n65-year-old Sathasivam, whose appointment triggered debate in legal and political circles on the propriety of giving gubernatorial assignment to a former CJI, is the 23rd Governor of the state.<br \/>\nHe was administered the oath of office by Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, Justice Ashok Bhushan, at the Raj Bhavan here.<br \/>\nHe is the first Chief Justice of India to be appointed to the post which is lower in warrant of precedence to the CJI.<br \/>\nHe is also the first non-political person appointed for a gubernatorial post by the new NDA government.<br \/>\nChief Minister Oommen Chandy, his cabinet colleagues, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha P J Kurien and Kerala Assembly Speaker G Karthikeyan were present at the function.<br \/>\nHowever, LDF leaders did not turn up for the function.<br \/>\nAfter his appointment on September 3, Sathasivam had said, \u201cI can utilise my service to the people of the state in a better way compared to other politicians.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cI want to utilise my experience for the people of the particular state (Kerala),\u201d he had said.<br \/>\nSathasivam, who was appointed as Governor of Kerala replacing Sheila Dikshit, retired as CJI in April this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam was on Friday sworn in as Kerala Governor. 65-year-old Sathasivam, whose appointment triggered debate in legal and political circles on the propriety of giving gubernatorial assignment to a former CJI, is the 23rd Governor of the state.
