{"id":35752,"date":"2014-11-08T21:40:49","date_gmt":"2014-11-08T16:10:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=35752"},"modified":"2014-11-08T21:40:49","modified_gmt":"2014-11-08T16:10:49","slug":"hc-asks-govt-spread-awareness-scams-emails-text-messages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/hc-asks-govt-spread-awareness-scams-emails-text-messages","title":{"rendered":"HC asks govt to spread awareness about scams through emails &#038; text messages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Bombay High <a class=\"storyTags\" href=\"https:\/\/www.business-standard.com\/search?type=news&amp;q=Court\" target=\"_blank\">Court <\/a>today directed the home department of <a class=\"storyTags\" href=\"https:\/\/www.business-standard.com\/search?type=news&amp;q=Maharashtra\" target=\"_blank\">Maharashtra <\/a>government to create awareness among the people about the scams that target the people through emails and text messages.<\/p>\n<p>The order came on a petition filed by Nashik-based Namdev Warade who lost Rs 29 lakh to such a scam.<\/p>\n<p>A division bench, headed by Justice V M Kanade, also directed the home department to take help of the mobile service providers in the awareness campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The bench also directed that the banks should follow the Know Your Customer guidelines of the Reserve Bank of India.<\/p>\n<p>Warade has approached the High Court seeking transfer of his case from Nashik police to CBI.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, he received a text message on September 5, 2010 which said he had won USD 5 lakh from a multi-national company.<\/p>\n<p>When he responded to the message, he received an email seeking money for the transfer process.<\/p>\n<p>Warade sold his house and other assets and paid Rs 29 lakh in total.
