While the figures have risen over the last year, the Delhi Police claim to have solved over 90 per cent of the cases.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ms__id919\" class=\"body\">The compilation of the data by the Delhi Police, shows that 11,683 cases of crimes against women were registered between January 1 and October 20 this year against 10,064 cases registered during the same period last year \u2014 an increase of 16 per cent.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ms__id921\" class=\"body\">Delhi recorded over 3,450 cases of molestation and 1,024 cases of eve-teasing this year as against 2,544 and 793 cases last year. There was a reduction in domestic violence cases, with 2,370 registered this year compared to 2,457 last year. As for kidnappings, 2,563 cases were registered this year against 2,553 cases last year. The number of abductions and dowry deaths also rose, with 311 and 131 cases registered this year against last year\u2019s 253 and 123 cases.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ms__id922\" class=\"body\">The police, however, claimed that 90 per cent of the cases registered in the last nine months had been solved and the culprits arrested.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ms__id923\" class=\"body\">A police officer said: \u201cAll of Delhi\u2019s 185 police stations have been strictly following the police commissioner\u2019s clear message to adopt a zero tolerance policy while dealing with cases of crimes against women. They have been instructed to register such cases soon after the victim approaches them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"ms__id924\" class=\"body\">The police said they are constantly upgrading their methods to reduce crimes against women and provide a safer environment.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ms__id925\" class=\"body\">\u201cThere is a 24&#215;7 women\u2019s help desk in all the police stations to help women victims, apart from a separate landline to handle women-related cases. Another helpline, 1091, is functioning to provide support services to women in distress,\u201d Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said. A special police unit for women and children is also in place in all 11 police districts and self-defence classes are regularly held for girl students in schools and colleges, he added.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ms__id926\" class=\"body\">Gender sensitisation programmes are also organised for the police personnel.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ms__id927\" class=\"body\">Under Parivartan, an intervention programme launched by the Delhi Police in 2005, the aim was to reduce the incidence of rape and domestic violence by 25 per cent each year. As part of the programme, constables of every police station visit various areas to explain how to register cases of violence against women.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ms__id928\" class=\"body\">\u201cWe are in constant touch with the NGOs to solve the problems of women in distress.
