{"id":36199,"date":"2014-12-13T17:42:45","date_gmt":"2014-12-13T12:12:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=36199"},"modified":"2014-12-13T17:42:45","modified_gmt":"2014-12-13T12:12:45","slug":"bombay-high-court-asks-thackeray-brothers-settle-will-dispute-amicably","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/bombay-high-court-asks-thackeray-brothers-settle-will-dispute-amicably","title":{"rendered":"Bombay High Court asks Thackeray brothers to settle will dispute amicably"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"ms__id1018\"><span id=\"ms__id1019\">The <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Bombay <\/span><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">High<\/span> <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Court<\/span> on Friday asked <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Shiv <\/span><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Sena<\/span> President <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Uddhav<\/span> <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Thackeray<\/span> and his estranged brother Jaidev to amicably settle the dispute over the will left by their father, Shiv Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"ms__id1023\">Bal Thackeray, who passed away in November 2012, bequeathed a major share in the family estate to Uddhav while cutting out Jaidev completely.\u00a0Jaidev has challenged Thackeray&#8217;s will, saying that his father was not of sound mind at the time of signing it.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ms__id1024\">Justice Gautam Patel today asked both the brothers to settle the dispute amicably and posted the matter to December 17 when they are expected to inform their decision.\u00a0&#8220;It is in the interest of both the parties to settle amicably,&#8221; said the judge.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ms__id1025\">Earlier on Friday, <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">advocate<\/span> F D&#8217;souza, a witness to the\u00a0 will, said during a cross-examination by Jaidev&#8217;s lawyer Seema Sarnaik that <span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Bal <\/span><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Thackeray<\/span> had read the draft of the will thoroughly before signing it.\u00a0Its legality was explained to him and he did not want any changes when he signed it, D&#8217;souza added.\u00a0To another question, he said he did not remember how many times he had visited `Matoshree&#8217; (the Thackeray residence) and whether he had signed the visitors&#8217; register there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Bombay High Court on Friday asked Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray and his estranged brother Jaidev to amicably settle the dispute over the will left by their father, Shiv Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray.
