Delhi High Court today dismissed petition of five DU candidates who challenged their disqualification from the Delhi University Union elections.<\/p>\n
Justice Sanjeev Khanna rejected the plea filed by Deepak Negi and Umesh Tomar of NSUI and Rohit Chahal, Lalit Kumar and Ashok Khare of ABVP. Negi and Chahal were candidates for president’s post. Tomar was aiming for vice-president, Kumar and Khare was a candidate for post of secretary and joint secretary. <\/p>\n
The five approached the court after they were disqualified by DU election officer for violating the model code of conduct.<\/p>\n
As per the allegations, their candidature was cancelled after the five were found spending more money than the fixed amount of Rs 5,000 each, using cars and organising rallies for their election campaigns which was against the Lyngdoh’s recommendations. <\/p>\n
Refusing to interfere with the DU’s decision, Justice Khanna said, “I do not think that the principles of natural justice have been violated. The university before taking any action had issued showcause notices stating that large-scale violation of the Supreme Court directions as well as code of conduct has been noticed.” <\/p>\n
“The chief election officer has rejected nominations of the petitioners at the time of scrutiny for violation of the code of conduct,” the court said. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
