Vijayan’s counsel Mr Damodaran filed a criminal miscellaneous petition for a direction to the central investigating agency. When the court asked for four months time to complete the investigation in the case, the court rejected the request and posted the case for further hearing on December 30. The case relates to the alleged irregularities involving Rs 374.5 crore in the award of the contract for renovation and modernisation of Pallivasal, Sengulam and Panniyar hydro-electric projects to the Canada-based SNC Lavalin in 1998.<\/p>\n
In the chargesheet filed by the CBI on June 11 before the CBI court here, Vijayan, former State Electricity Minister, had been charged under IPC section 120 (B) for criminal conspiracy, section 420 for cheating and section 13 (1) and 13 (2) of the Preventions of Corruption Act.<\/p>\n
The CBI also stated in the chargesheet that all nine accused in the case had hatched a conspiracy and entered into a contract with Lavalin without following the standard formalities.<\/p>\n
The accused had also split up the contract into three contracts in order to avoid the scrutiny of the central agency and this itself showed that the accused had the intention to cheat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
