Delhi High Court, Expressing concern over the status and living conditions of foreigners, many of them are Bangla Desi, Pakistanis, detained in Govt. Camps for years, asked the Central Government to explain why these people have not been sent to their own countries.<\/p>\n
This Expression was given in a PIL. This PIL was started after a Letter written to Chief Justice of Delhi High Court by some detainees residing in the Deportation Camp, complaining the poor standards of living in deportation camps. The court took the letter as a public interest litigation and initiated legal proceedings.<\/p>\n
Advocate Arvind Nigam appeared as Counsel for Petitioner told the bench of Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice Manmohan, that many foreign nationals have been languishing in Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) camps since 2006 and no effort has been made by the government to deport them back to their countries. Some people have been there for 2-3 years without any detention order. The exact number of people detained in these camps is not known.<\/p>\n
Zubeda Begum appeared as Respondent Counsel for Government. She argued that some of the people have been detained just for security reasons.<\/p>\n
The court said if Govt will detain somebody that must be followed by laws and order with appropriate reasoning. Cort also asked the government counsel whether any exchange of detainees has taken place between India and Pakistan and India and Bangla desh. The petition says that many of the foreign nationals in the camps are Pakistanis and Bangla Desi.<\/p>\n
Court instructed Govt. to provide the facts and figures as to why and how many such exchange of prisoners took place. We just can’t turn a blind eye to the people who are suffering because of the lack of diplomatic relations.<\/p>\n
The court asked the government counsel to consult the union home secretary and file a detailed affidavit as to what is the present status of all the foreigners living in camps by the next date of hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
