A drunken driver is a danger to society,&#8221; Additional Sessions Judge Atul Kumar Garg said.<\/p>\n<p>The court, while dismissing the plea of Girja Shankar Tiwari against a magisterial court order that had awarded the sentence, said the magistrate has &#8220;not committed any error&#8221; while sentencing him, &#8220;considering that he was driving a commercial vehicle after consuming liquor in high quantity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"ndtvrelcontent\"><\/div>\n<p>The judge upheld the trial court&#8217;s September 27 this year order that had also imposed a fine of <span class=\"rupee\">Rs.<\/span> 13,500 besides suspending his driving licence for ten months.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Tiwari, in his appeal, contended that the order was &#8220;contrary to law and wholly based on presumptions, conjectures, illegalities, surmises and lack of application of judicial pronouncements.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The convict, a driver by profession, had sought leniency from the court on the ground that he had to take care of his seven-year old son.<\/p>\n<p>The court, however, rejected his plea saying there was no merit in it and ordered that he be take in custody to undergo the sentence.<\/p>\n<p>( Source &#8211; PTI )<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A drunk driver is a danger to society, a Delhi court has observed while refusing to set aside the ten-day jail term awarded to a man. &#8220;So far so the sentence is concerned, ten days simple imprisonment for the offence punishable under Section 185 (drunken driving) of Motor Vehicles Act is not too harsh.
