{"id":4786,"date":"2010-03-28T16:45:52","date_gmt":"2010-03-28T11:15:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=4786"},"modified":"2010-03-28T16:45:52","modified_gmt":"2010-03-28T11:15:52","slug":"modi-appears-before-sit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/modi-appears-before-sit","title":{"rendered":"Modi appears before SIT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi is unlikely to appear on Sunday before the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with a 2002 Gujarat riots case, official sources said.<\/p>\n<p>SIT had summoned Modi in connection with a complaint of Zakia Jaffery, widow of former MP Eshan Jaffery who was killed by a mob along with 69 others at Gulburg society in February 2002.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Modi is not likely to appear before the SIT today,&#8221; sources in the state government said.<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court had on April 27 last year asked the SIT to inquire into Zakia&#8217;s complaint in which she alleged that Modi and 62 others, including his cabinet colleagues, police officials and senior bureaucrats aided and abetted the riots which left over 1,000 people dead.<\/p>\n<p>Zakia approached the apex court after the Gujarat High Court refused on November 3, 2007 to give any direction and asked her to seek redressal before a magistrate&#8217;s court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi is unlikely to appear on Sunday before the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with a 2002 Gujarat riots case, official sources said.
