The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a plea for easing restrictions imposed by the authorities on worshiping at the make-shift Ram temple built at the demolished Babri mosque site in Ayodhya.<\/p>\n
“We will consider your plea,” a bench of Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice Deepak Verma assured former union minister Subramanian Swamy.<\/p>\n
The bench gave the assurance in response to his plea for early hearing of his application, pending in the court since early 2009.<\/p>\n
The bench, however, asked Swamy to file a fresh and proper application on the matter.<\/p>\n
“You have to a file proper application and only then the respondents can file response,” the bench said, while giving three weeks to him to file the application.<\/p>\n
Swamy said he had in March 2009 filed an affidavit, which contains his plea for easing out “unreasonable restrictions” on worshipping the at the make-shift temple of Lord Ram at Ayodhya.<\/p>\n
Swamy clarified to the court that at this juncture he was not raising the question of whether Ram temple should be built at the site.<\/p>\n
“My prayer is against the restrictions imposed on worship,” said Swamy, who had earlier been made a party to the various lawsuits filed in the court on the issue of building a temple at Ayodhya.<\/p>\n
Earlier Jan 29, he had submitted that irrespective of the final outcome relating to the title deed dispute pending in the Allahabad High Court, the authorities should ensure adequate arrangements for devotees to pray.
