The Gujarat High Court Monday issued notices to the vice-chancellor and registrar of the SNDT Women\u2019s University of Mumbai for alleged irregularities in the process of BEd admission and examinations.
\nA division bench of Chief Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya and Justice Akil Kureshi has asked the respondents to submit their reply on allegations of irregularities against them.<\/p>\n
The petitioner, Bhautik Bhatt, in his petition filed before the high court submitted through his counsel Sudhir Nanavati, that the university had not \u201cfollowed procedure.\u201d<\/p>\n
It announced a switch to the semester-system in 2008 following which admissions were supposed to be given in the first semester.<\/p>\n
Nanavati argued that the university gave admissions to students even at the end of the term. He contended that the university had even allowed those students who did not complete 180 days of requisite presence in the college to take the exams.<\/p>\n
The petitioner alleged that the university had given wrong marksheets to 94 students and had also failed to comply with the high court\u2019s order of 2009 to close down its M.Ed section in the Maninagar college of Ahmedabad.<\/p>\n
Nanavati requested the court to direct the respondents to submit their reply about the irregularities and sought strict actions against the respondents.<\/p>\n
He also submitted that the prospective students should not be made to suffer because of the irregularities.<\/p>\n
The chief justice while issuing the notices to the respondents, commented to the counsel, \u201cForget the past as we are not inclined to interfere in what\u2019s happened then. However, the matter pertains to students and hence we shall ensure that if there are irregularities, these are not repeated.
