{"id":5333,"date":"2010-05-22T16:02:28","date_gmt":"2010-05-22T10:32:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=5333"},"modified":"2010-05-22T16:02:28","modified_gmt":"2010-05-22T10:32:28","slug":"court-rejects-madhuri-guptas-bail-plea-lead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/court-rejects-madhuri-guptas-bail-plea-lead","title":{"rendered":"Court rejects Madhuri Gupta&#8217;s bail plea (Lead)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Delhi court Friday rejected the bail plea of Madhuri Gupta, a junior Indian diplomat arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan\u2019s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).<\/p>\n<p>Gupta, who is in judicial custody, pleaded for bail on grounds that she is not required by the police for any investigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is in judicial custody even when the police does not require her for further investigation,\u201d said Joginder Dahiya, Gupta\u2019s counsel.<\/p>\n<p>Her bail plea also stated that she is suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes and there is nobody from her family to pursue the case. \u201cHer parents are no more and her brother is in the US and she is unable to defend herself properly,\u201d added Dahiya.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja rejected the bail plea on the grounds that the matter is still under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>According to a Delhi Police official, they are awaiting the forensic report of Gupta\u2019s laptop and bail given to her at his stage may hinder the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Gupta, 53, a second secretary at the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, is in judicial custody till May 29.
