The bench\u00a0issued notice to the Centre but refused to stay the amendments, saying \u201cno stay can be granted without hearing the government\u201d. The bench asked the Centre to file its reply in six weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We know that the government has brought in new amendments, that too without removing the defects,\u201d the bench said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After hearing senior counsel Mohan Parasaran the bench said\u00a0that it was also not a validation Act,\u00a0As a counsel for petitioner Prithvi Raj Chauhan sought a stay on the amendments, the bench said, \u201cIt is now a legislation and cannot be stayed at this stage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In their petitions, Prathvi Raj Chauhan and Sanjeev Babanrao Bhor pointed out that the March 20 verdict providing for anticipatory bail and preliminary enquiry into the complaints.\u00a0The government had approached the court with a review petition, but the apex court refused to stay its order.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEW DELHI:\u00a0A bench of Justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan,\u00a0refused to stay\u00a0the recent amendments brought in to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities)\u00a0 Act, 1989.
