{"id":54189,"date":"2018-09-27T17:46:08","date_gmt":"2018-09-27T12:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/?p=54189"},"modified":"2018-09-27T17:46:16","modified_gmt":"2018-09-27T12:16:16","slug":"will-not-revive-raghupathi-commission-tn-govt-to-madras-hc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/will-not-revive-raghupathi-commission-tn-govt-to-madras-hc","title":{"rendered":"Will not revive Raghupathi Commission: TN govt to Madras HC"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Chennai:<\/strong>The Tamil Nadu government informed the Madras High Court on Thursday that it would not revive the Raghupathi Commission of Inquiry, set up by the then AIADMK government in 2011 to probe alleged irregularities in construction of the new secretariat here during the DMK rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AIADMK government&#8217;s response came after the court&#8217;s scathing observations earlier that the commission was constituted and prolonged &#8220;to neutralise the sensitiveness of the issues involved and to divert the attention of the people.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Advocate General Vijay Narayan, appearing for the state government, on Thursday submitted before Justice SM Subramaniam that it would not revive the Commission.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All relevant documents were handed over to Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) and it was for the anti-graft body to take a call on the matter, he said\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On August 3, the court had directed the state government to suspend the commission of inquiry and raised several questions with regard to other panels in the state while observing that a time limit has to be fixed for the commissions that are to be appointed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court had given the direction on a petition by the government, seeking lifting of the stay granted on March 12, 2015 on the functioning of the commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the hearing today, the Judge also asked the government to spell out its stand on the appointment of any one in the place of Justice Raghupathi, who resigned because of the court order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recording the submission, the judge said he would pass orders on the same\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chennai:The Tamil Nadu government informed the Madras High Court on Thursday that it would not revive the Raghupathi Commission of Inquiry, set up by the then AIADMK government in 2011 to probe alleged irregularities in construction of the new secretariat here during the DMK rule.
