{"id":54306,"date":"2018-10-04T18:43:20","date_gmt":"2018-10-04T13:13:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/?p=54306"},"modified":"2018-10-04T18:43:27","modified_gmt":"2018-10-04T13:13:27","slug":"sc-allows-deportation-of-seven-rohingyas-from-assam-to-myanmar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/sc-allows-deportation-of-seven-rohingyas-from-assam-to-myanmar","title":{"rendered":"SC allows deportation of seven Rohingyas from Assam to Myanmar"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>New Delhi:<\/strong>The Supreme Court Thursday allowed the deportation of seven Rohingyas, who have illegally migrated to Assam in India, to their country of origin Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The apex court said the seven Rohingyas were found by the competent court as illegal immigrants and Myanmar had accepted them as its citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are not inclined to interfere on the decision taken,&#8221; the apex court said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Centre told the apex court that the seven Rohingyas have illegally migrated to India in 2012 and they were convicted under Foreigners Act.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Centre also informed the court that Myanmar has issued a certificate of identity to the seven Rohingyas along with one month visa to facilitate their deportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The order was passed by a bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An application was moved Wednesday seeking to restrain the Centre from deporting to Myanmar seven Rohingyas lodged in a detention centre at Silchar in Assam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rohingya immigrants will be handed over to the Myanmar authorities in Moreh border post in Manipur on Thursday, a Home Ministry official had said Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The interim plea, seeking urgent measures to stop the proposed deportation of seven Rohingyas, was filed in a pending PIL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PIL was filed earlier by two Rohingya immigrants &#8212; Mohammad Salimullah and Mohammad Shaqir &#8212; challenging the Centre&#8217;s decision to deport over 40,000 refugees who came to India after escaping from Myanmar due to widespread discrimination and violence against the community.\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Delhi:The Supreme Court Thursday allowed the deportation of seven Rohingyas, who have illegally migrated to Assam in India, to their country of origin Myanmar.
