Chief Justice John Roberts administered the constitutional oath and retired Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy administered the judicial oath, according to the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two-vote margin of victory made it the closest Supreme Court confirmation vote since 1881 \u2014 and by far the most contentious since Clarence Thomas in 1991.\u00a0Ahead of the vote, hundreds of people protested against Kavanaugh\u2019s nomination at the US Capitol in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A separate, public swearing-in ceremony is planned for 7:00 pm (2300 GMT) Monday in the White House&#8217;s East Room.\u00a0It reflects a high water mark of the Trump presidency: Republican control of the White House, the Senate, the House of Representatives and the judiciary\u2019s top court.\u00a0President Donald Trump,\u00a0tweeted saying he applauds and congratulates the US Senate for \u201cconfirming our great nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEW DELHI:\u00a0Brett Kavanaugh was sworn in as a judge in the United States Supreme Court on Saturday after the Senate confirmed his nomination by 50 votes to 48.\u00a0Brett Kavanaugh was sworn in as the newest Supreme Court Justice at a private ceremony.
