The court, had, however, dismissed the complaint against Sonia Gandhi &amp; the CPI(M).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/images-14.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"299\" height=\"168\" data-attachment-id=\"56577\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/rss-defamation-case-rahul-gandhi-to-appear-before-court-today\/images-14-2\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/images-14.jpg?fit=299%2C168&amp;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"299,168\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"images (14)\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/images-14.jpg?fit=299%2C168&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-56577\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/images-14.jpg?resize=299%2C168&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/images-14.jpg?w=299&amp;ssl=1 299w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/images-14.jpg?resize=150%2C84&amp;ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 299px) 100vw, 299px\" \/><\/a>Lankesh, a senior journalist was murdered at her residence in Bengaluru on September 5, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>In the complainant, Dhrutiman Joshi stated that Rahul Gandhi, within 24-hours of the murder of the journalist, criticised the RSS &amp; alleged that \u201canybody who speaks against the ideology of the BJP, against the ideology of the RSS is pressured, beaten, attacked &amp; even killed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joshi said that Sitaram Yechury was also heard &amp; seen saying that it was the RSS ideology &amp; the RSS men who killed Gauri Lankesh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor a mere political score, the accused had unnecessarily dragged the name of RSS &amp; it in a move to rake up negative sentiments in the minds of the people against the RSS,\u201d the complaint stated.<\/p>\n<p>Joshi had requested the court to charge the duo under section 499 (defamation) &amp; section 500 (punishment for defamation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).<\/p>\n<p>This is the second defamation petition against Rahul Gandhi in Maharashtra.<\/p>\n<p>Another RSS activist Rajesh Kunte had, in 2014, filed a defamation case against Gandhi over a statement made by him at an election rally, where he had blamed the RSS for Mahatma Gandhi\u2019s assassination.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hearing in the case is scheduled at 10 am at Mazgaon Metropolitan Magistrate court on July 4.
