{"id":5786,"date":"2010-06-28T15:52:12","date_gmt":"2010-06-28T10:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.in\/news\/?p=5786"},"modified":"2010-06-28T15:52:12","modified_gmt":"2010-06-28T10:22:12","slug":"under-trial-prisoners%e2%80%99-justice-scheme-a-silent-revolution-in-judiciary-law-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/news\/under-trial-prisoners%e2%80%99-justice-scheme-a-silent-revolution-in-judiciary-law-minister","title":{"rendered":"Under trial prisoners\u2019 justice scheme a silent revolution in judiciary: Law Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Terming the scheme of providing justice to Undertrial Prisoners (UTPs) a &#8216;silent revolution in the judiciary&#8217;, Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily today said the scheme had been successful due to the coordinated approach between the judiciary and executive.<\/p>\n<p>Altogether 1,30,651 UTPs have been released since January this year, when the national mission for delivery of justice and legal reforms undertrial programme was launched.<\/p>\n<p>There are in excess of 3 lakh UTPs in India, forming 70 per cent of the jail population, and only 30 per cent are actually convicted and imprisoned.<\/p>\n<p>Hailing the scheme as a success till now, Mr Moily said, &#8221;It is a silent revolution in the judiciary and is bringing out good results.&#8221; The scheme is being implemented in consonance with various High Courts of the country and is aimed at decongesting jails.<\/p>\n<p>The Union Minister also lauded the coordinated approach between the judiciary and executive for ensuring the success of the scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Moily was here to attend a discussion on &#8216;Perspective \/ Action Plans for effective utilisation of grants by the 13th Finance commission, e-court, among others&#8217; of the North Eastern states, including Sikkim&#8217;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Terming the scheme of providing justice to Undertrial Prisoners (UTPs) a &#8216;silent revolution in the judiciary&#8217;, Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily today said the scheme had been successful due to the coordinated approach between the judiciary and executive.
