The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought the response of the Delhi government, a state-run school and the Delhi University’s Central Institute of Education on a petition filed by a class 9 student denied admission to the school despite clearing the admission test.<\/p>\n
Fourteen-year-old Aditya Gaur moved the court after he was denied admission by the Delhi government-run Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya on the grounds that the CIE Experimental Basic School, which is funded by Delhi University, does not fall in any of the categories of the schools.<\/p>\n
Gaur sought admission in Delhi government-run school after having passed class 8 from Central Institute of Education with 60 percent marks.<\/p>\n
In his petition, he mentioned that he even qualified the written test held by the school but was refused admission. “Such denial of admission by the Delhi government-run school is arbitrary, discriminatory, and violative of fundamental rights of the petitioner as guaranteed to him under the constitution of India,” his petition said.<\/p>\n
His counsel Ashok Agarwal argued that since the CIE Experimental Basic School is a 100 percent public-funded school, there is no justification on the part of the Delhi government not to treat it at par with the government-aided schools.<\/p>\n
