A woman, her boyfriend and two others were Wednesday sentenced to life imprisonment by a court for murdering her fiance within three days of their engagement in 2003.<\/p>\n
Fast Track Court Judge Vanti Kodi, who awarded life sentence to all the four, also imposed a fine of Rs.75,000 on the woman, S. Shubha.<\/p>\n
Her boyfriend, Arun Verma, was slapped a penalty of Rs.50,000. Another convict Venkatesh was fined Rs. 100,000 and convict Dinakar was slapped a fine of Rs.50,000.<\/p>\n
The prosecution case was that Shubha, who was 21-year-old and studying in the final year of a law course in Bangalore in 2003, conspired with her college friend Arun, two years younger to her, to murder B.V. Girish, a software engineer to whom she was engaged.<\/p>\n
Girish, then 27, and Shubha were neighbours in Banashankari-II stage in south Bangalore, and had known each other for 15 years.<\/p>\n
They were engaged Nov 30, 2003 and Girish was murdered Dec 3, 2003.<\/p>\n
The prosecution contended that Shubha and her boyfriend Arun, who hails from Bihar, hatched a plan to kill Girish. They took the help of Arun’s cousin Dinakar and Venkatesh.<\/p>\n
On Dec 3, 2003, Shubha and Girish went out for dinner on his two-wheeler and on way back she made him stop at a point between Indiranagar and Koramangala in east Bangalore so that she could see planes landing and taking off from the near by airport.<\/p>\n
As Girish and Shubha were watching a plane land, he was attacked with iron rods by Venkatesh who sped away on Arun’s bike along with Dinakar.<\/p>\n
Shubha took Girish to a nearby private hospital where he died. She later told police that an unidentified person attacked Girish and fled.<\/p>\n
The prosecution relied on calls Shubha made from her cell phone and the smses she had sent to charge her, Arun and the two others with conspiracy to murder Girish.<\/p>\n
Police first interrogated Arun who is said to have confessed to the plan to murder Girish. Based on his statement Shuba and the two others were arrested.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
