The Supreme Court on Wednesday pulled up the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for making excuses to get an adjournment on a petition by Surendra Koli, sentenced to death in the Nithari serial killing case of 2006.<\/p>\n
An apex court bench of Justices Markandey Katju and Gyan Sudha Misra chided the investigating agency when it sought six weeks’ adjournment on the grounds that it needed time to translate the case papers.<\/p>\n
The court said such excuses do not behove of an investigating agency, that too in a case in which the convict is languishing in a death cell.<\/p>\n
The CBI invited the court’s ire when it said it was intimated about its impleading in the case in November 2010.<\/p>\n
The court asked if three months was not enough to complete the translation work.<\/p>\n
It adjourned the hearing till next week, saying no further request for adjournment would be entertained.<\/p>\n
The Nithari killings pertain to the horrific discovery in December 2009 of body parts being found in a drain behind the bungalow of Koli’s employer Moninder Singh Pandher. The remains are of the 19 young women and children from Nithari village allegedly raped and killed in the Pandher bungalow.<\/p>\n
Koli was given the fourth death sentence in the serial killings Dec 22 last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
