The Delhi government Tuesday announced a decision to set up five special courts for the early disposal of cases related to violence against women.

“Five courts will be opened for violence against women in the capital,” Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit told reporters here after a cabinet meeting.

A total of 40 posts for these special courts would be created.

The government had requested the Delhi High Court to allow the setting up of the special courts that would conduct trials on daily basis.

At present, these are heard by additional sessions judges.
