Farmers from Greater Noida Sunday demanded a compensation at the rate of Rs.10,000-11,500 per square metre for their acquired lands, a village headman said.

The demand is a part of a charter to be given to the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority and filed in the Allahabad High Court, which is hearing the farmers’ petitions against land acquisition.

On the direction of the Allahabad High Court to reach an accord for an amicable settlement between the farmers and the Greater Noida authority, the farmers are making efforts, said Ranvir Nagar, headman of Sadullapur village and convener of the Gramin Panchayat Morcha (GPM).

‘The authority may mislead the court, so the Gramin Panchayat Morcha (GPM) has decided to prepare a charter of demands,’ he said.

‘We would get it signed from all farmers of the area and get it received in the authority, and finally submit it before the high court as our rejoinder,’ he said.

Nagar said farmers of Patwari, Bisrakh, Jalalpur, Khera Chauganpur and Khairpur Gurjar villages have signed the charter. The initiative was taken following the court’s suggestion July 26 for amicably settling the issue. The farmers’s charter demanded compensation at the prevailing market rates for peasants on whose lands public roads have been constructed.

From the total acquired and developed land, at least 10 percent land should be allocated to the farmers as it was being done till 1997 and was, later, reduced to six percent, the charter said. The authority should de-notify the land acquired under the government order of April 24, 2010, it added.

The farmers also demanded that 20 percent employment for farmers’ children be guaranteed in industries that come up on acquired lands. The charter also demanded 20 percent quota for land-seller’s children in educational institutes that will be built in the area after land acquisition, the charter said.

Nagar said area farmer leaders like Tejram Yadav, Inder Nagar and Parvinder Singh participated in the village to village campaign to sign the charter of demands.
