The Karnataka High Court Friday told the state government to set up a panel to identify government jobs for which the blind can apply and submit a report in two months.

Chief Justice J.S. Khehar and Justice A.S. Bopanna also directed the government to allow visually challenged candidates to apply for the posts of first division and second division assistants for which applications have already been called.

They told the Karnataka Public Service Commission to issue a corrigendum to the advertisement for these two positions to permit applications from blind candidates.

The directives came on a petition by the National Federation of the Blind challenging the exclusion of the visually challenged from applying for these posts.

The judges questioned the state government as to why it had not identified the posts for blind people, like the central government had done.
