The Indian electrician, identified only as AMM, and two other unidentified men have been accused of robbing two Bangladeshi nationals, identified only as MS and MA, both 24, who were cycling back to their residence Jan 25 this year, The National reported Monday.
MS, one of the victims, said the three men claimed they were from the criminal investigations department of the Dubai police.
He said the suspects dragged them to a sandy area and assaulted them with wooden bars.
They took around 500 dirhams (around $136) and a cell phone, according to the victim.
The men were interrupted by two Arab men who asked the accused why they were beating the victims.
“The suspects told the men that they were police officers but when they were asked for their IDs they ran away,” said MS.
AMM was later arrested and charged with kidnap, assault, theft and impersonating a policeman.
