Five accused has been remanded by the order of a magistrate’s court, the all the accused are of Ahmedabad serial blasts case in a five-day police custody in connection with the attempt to escape from Sabarmati Central Jail through a tunnel.

Detection of crime branch (DCB) today produced the five accused before magistrate B J Ganatra and sought 14 days’ police remand for interrogation.

DCB said it wanted to unearth the whole conspiracy, as the tunnel could not have been dug to this extent without involvement of a larger group.

Advocate D D Pathan, the accused’s lawyer, argued that investigators already knew what they wanted to know, and they were only making a show of probing a serious case.

DCB yesterday had taken into custody Mufti Abubashar, Mohammad Ismail, Nadeem Saiyed, Iqbal Sheikh and Mohammad Ansar Abdulrazzak.

Crime branch has interrogated five others in the case earlier: Shaduli Abdul Kalim, Shibli Abdul Kalim, Zahid Sheikh, Nasir Patel and Hafiz Mulla.

A daring escape plan came to light on February 10 when the authorities stumbled upon a 16-feet deep and 26-feet long tunnel inside barrack No 4 of Sabarmati Central Jail, where 14 of the 68 serial blasts case accused had been lodged.
