Judicial custody of Mining baron G Janardhana Reddy and his personal assistant Mehfuz Ali Khan, arrested on charges of indulging in illegal mining in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, has been extended till April 17 by the CBI Special Court here today.

Additional Civil and Sessions Court and CBI Special Court Judge B M Angadi passed the order after taking up the bail application filed by Reddy and Khan.

The CBI counsel moved an application seeking extension of the custody of the duo.

The Supreme Court had extended the ambit of CBI inquiry to mining operations of Reddy from Andhra Pradesh to Karnataka.

He was arrested by the CBI on September 5 last year in connection with probe into AP-based Obulapuram Mining Company, owned by the Former Karnataka Minister and has been in custody ever since.

The Apex court later extended the CBI probe to operations of Karnataka-based Associated Mining Company and Deccan Mining Syndicate, both owned by Reddy and his wife Aruna Lakshmi.

Both Reddy and Khan have been lodged in Bangalore Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara on the outskirts of the city.

They were produced in court via video-conferencing due to security reasons.

The next hearing of the bail applications would be taken up by the court on April 17.
