A special court on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to a man for raping a nine-year-old daughter of his friend at Jaora town in the district last year.
The sentence was awarded to Suresh alias Suraj Mali by special judge, SC/ST Act, BC Malaiya, under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on him for raping the minor on September 12, 2013. According to police, just before the incident took place, Mali and the victim’s father were consuming liquor together at the latter’s residence at late hours.
However, when their stock of liquor finished, the victim’s father went to the market to purchase some, while Mali stayed back at his home. When the girl’s father did not return for long time, his wife also went out in search of him, while their daughter was asleep at home. Taking advantage of the situation, Mali raped the girl
