Samoun Masih, a 32-year old man, killed himself with a country-made weapon inside his Maruti Swift after he shot at his second wife Anita, who had a narrow escape, in Sector 44 at around 8:15 am on Friday. The son of a retired police constable and resident of Baltana, Zirakpur, Samoun had strained relations with Anita. A few months after he married her in 2009, she had lodged a complaint with the Chandigarh Crime against Women Cell for keeping her in the dark about his first marriage.

According to available information, Samoun never told her about his first marriage. While he used to live with his first wife Meena in Baltana, his second wife Anita lives in Sector 44, Chandigarh.

Anita, a teacher at a school in Sector 45, was on her two-wheeler with her 11-year-old daughter Enna who studies in a Sector 44 school. It was Anita’s second marriage; she had divorced her first husband. Samoun came in his car from behind and shot at Anita, who was heading for Sector 45 on her two-wheeler. The bullet whizzed past her, injuring her left arm. Anita and her daughter fell on the road. After this, Samoun fled and later shot himself in his vehicle in Sector 44.

Anita and Enna were rushed to GMCH-32 and discharged after medical treatment. Police officials said that the body of Samoun was found in his car in Sector 44 at around 8.45am when somebody informed the police control room (PCR) about it. A country-made weapon, along with two live cartridges, were recovered from the car.
