A court here Wednesday rejected the bail application of Shahabuddin, an accused in the case of Rajasthan nurse Bhanwari Devi, who was kidnapped and murdered last year, a lawyer said.

The court, however, permitted the accused to take part in his son’s wedding for three hours April 26.

Shahabuddin is accused of kidnapping the nurse along with two others and then strangling her Sep 1, 2011.

It is alleged that the nurse was abducted at the behest of sacked Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna who was allegedly blackmailing Maderna on the basis of a CD showing her in a compromising position with the politician.

“Shahabuddin had applied for an interim bail in the court of Judge Anoop Kumar Saxena who rejected the bail application,” said Special Public prosecutor S.S. Yadav.

“The court has allowed Shahabuddin to participate in the wedding of his son for three hours,” said Yadav.

The CBI has arrested 16 people including Maderna and Congress legislator from Luni, Malkhan Singh Bishnoi in the case so far.
