The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that the government should give sanction to prosecute accused officials within 3 months.

If there is need for any consultation with the legal authorities, the government might give its sanction within 4 months.

However, the SC left it for Parliament to frame guidelines for giving sanction to prosecute officials.

The apex court gave its judgment on a petition filed by Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy. In his petition, Subramanian Swamy has said that the PMO took 16 months to give sanction to prosecute A Raja in the 2G scam.
