Sheena Bora case: Court asks CBI to complete probe by Dec 17

A special court granted permission to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to interrogate Indrani Mukerjea, Sanjeev Khanna and Shyamwar Rai for 10 days. “Permission is granted within specified period,” CBI court Judge H S Mahajan ordered on Tuesday.

The judge ordered the CBI to hand over copies of statements of witnesses recorded by a magistrate to the accused within 10 days. Mukerjea’s lawyer, Gunjan Mangla, argued that she required a copy of a statement recorded by Rai before a magistrate. “Accused number three (Rai) seems to have recorded a statement under (section) 164 (of the criminal procedure code). That statement it very vital for me. It has no mention in the chargesheet,” she told the court.

Directing the CBI to carry out investigation of the three accused within 10 days, judge Mahajan also said he would open sealed statements in court on December 17. “Even I do not know what is in the packet. I will open the packet on the 17th and whatever is in it, I will supply it to them (the defence),” the judge said.

Mukerjea, Khanna and Rai are due in court on December 17, when their judicial custody ends. Neither of them was produced in court on Tuesday. The trio were chargesheeted by the CBI last month for allegedly kidnapping Mukerjea’s daughter Sheena Bora (24) in Bandra, murdering her in a car, driving her body to a forested area in Raigad district and burning and burying it there.
