Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has petitioned the Supreme Court for a seven-day extension of his interim bail in connection with the money laundering case linked to the liquor policy scam. Released on May 10 to campaign for the Lok Sabha polls, Kejriwal cited medical tests as grounds for the extension.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) revealed that Kejriwal requires additional time for medical examinations, including a PET-CT scan, before surrendering to prison authorities on June 2, a day after his interim bail ends.

In a recent plea filed on Sunday, the Chief Minister highlighted a concerning weight loss of 7 kg and elevated ketone levels, potentially indicating a serious ailment. AAP leader Atishi expressed doctors’ concerns over Kejriwal’s sudden weight loss and high ketone levels, suggesting the need for comprehensive medical tests, including a PET scan.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection to the Delhi liquor policy case and held in Tihar Jail. The Supreme Court, while approving his interim bail plea on May 10, set the surrender date for June 2.

Under the interim bail conditions, Kejriwal is prohibited from accessing the Delhi Chief Minister’s office or the Delhi Secretariat, and he is barred from commenting on the case or interacting with witnesses.

Since his release on interim bail, Kejriwal has been actively campaigning for his party. Addressing a townhall with traders and industrialists in Ferozepur, he urged support from the people of Punjab in defending constitutional values, democracy, and freedom.

Referring to his arrest, Kejriwal highlighted the timing, just days after the announcement of general elections. He criticized the BJP-led Centre for incarcerating several opposition leaders and then proposing electoral battles.
