Pushpa 2: The court criticised the petitioner for misusing judicial resources and imposed a penalty, directing the funds to organisations dedicated to helping trafficked women and children.
he Telangana High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking to block the release of the highly anticipated Telugu film Pushpa 2: The Rule, clearing the way for its scheduled premiere on December 5.
The petition, filed by Secunderabad resident Sararapu Srisailam, alleged that the movie could glorify illegal activities, similar to its predecessor ‘Pushpa: The Rise’, which portrayed the smuggling of red sanders.
The petitioner argued that such content could influence viewers negatively and requested the court to stall its release.Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya, however, rejected the plea, describing the claims as speculative and unsupported by evidence beyond the teaser of the film.
The court emphasised that stopping the release at this stage would disrupt the film industry and impose significant financial losses on the filmmakers.
Additionally, the court criticised the petitioner for misusing judicial resources and imposed a penalty, directing the funds to organisations dedicated to helping trafficked women and children.
“The petition lacks merit and wastes the valuable time of the judiciary,” Justice Bhattacharya remarked.
Deputy Solicitor General Gadi Praveen Kumar, representing the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), defended the movie’s release.
He stated that the CBFC had carefully reviewed and cleared Pushpa 2 after incorporating five recommended changes. Kumar further assured the court that the film complied with all legal requirements under the Cinematography Act, leaving no grounds for the petition.
