Information: Kakatiya University was established on 19th August, 1976 to fulfil the aspirations of the Telangana people for higher education. The founding of the University was in fact a historic event in the sense that heralded a new era in the realms of higher education of this region. The erstwhile Post-Graduate Centre of Osmania University was upgraded and named Kakatiya University. The development of the University over the years has been gradual but impressive. The University was initially accredited with B+ grade by the NAAC in 2002 and reaccredited with A grade in 2008. The University situated in a sprawling area of about 650 acres, has now 24 departments in four colleges on the campus with a network of eleven constituent colleges and 471 affiliated colleges. It has its Post-graduate Colleges at Subedari (Hanamkonda), Nirmal, Karimnagar, Godavarikhani, Khammam and Kothagudem in addtion to University Engineering College at Kothgudem.

University Hostel:
The University maintains 8 hostels in Warangal town with a total intake of 800 students. However more than 1500 students are being accommodated in these hostels. Out of the 8 hostels, 6 are on the University Campus, while one hostel for Law College is located at the University Arts & Science College, Subedari. One hostel for University PG College, Subedari is temporarily housed in a rented building.

There is acute shortage of accommodation for girls as they are now being temporarily accommodated in University Staff Quarters. A separate hostel for Research Scholars had been sanctioned in IX Plan, but the approval is awaited. A separate Working Women’s Hostel is coming up with the financial assistance from Ministry of Human Resource Development.

A structure for Common Mess with the latest gadgets is developed with internal resources to house 800 students at a time.

The Hostel Accommodation for University Post Graduate Colleges outside the Warangal city is also inadequate. At Khammam the Hostel is located in a rented building. At Karimnagar, there is pressure on the authorities to provide a permanent hostel as the present hostel is located in the temporary sheds. At Nirmal also the hostel is located in a rented building. Though a hostel is located at Kothagudem, the accommodation is inadequate.
