The Chhaju Ram Law College, Hisar is one of the best colleges of Law in Haryana. It was inaugurated on 31 Oct. 2003 by the Governor of Haryana.

As the region around the city of Hisar was educationally backward, the rural elite of the region, led by Justice D.S. Lamba (1929-76), decided to open a teachers’ training college for the rapid spread of education in the region.

We took a vow to start a college at Hisar in the sweet memory of our revered Seth Chhaju Ram (1865-1943). To begin with, the Chhaju Ram Law College was allotted 160 seats in LL.B.(Prefessional) 3-year degree course and the Chhaju Ram Law College was allotted 200 seats in Law.

The classes of newly established college were held in a wing of the old Jat High School building. It was built by Chhaju Ram in 1929 in the memory of his son – Ajit Kumar (1905-13).

Having used this building for 28 years, the site of Chhaju Ram Law College has now been shifted to its own newly built campus, situated near the Akashwani Bhawan. The new campus is quite spacious and extremely beautiful. It then cost nearly Rs. 60 lacs.

Mrs. S. Randhawa, the wife of the Dean of Hisar Veterinary College, then took over the charge of Chhaju Ram Memorial Jat College. She remained its Acting – Principal only for the session of 1968-69. Dr. S.S. Bhatia who took its permanent charge as Principal on 17 July 1969 and served the college till retirement i.e. 31 May 1975.

Maharshi Dayanand University, ab initio established as Rohtak University, Rohtak, came into existence by an Act No. 25 of 1975 of the Haryana Legislative Assembly in 1976 with the objective to promote inter-disciplinary higher education and research in the fields of environmental, ecological and life sciences. It was rechristened as Maharshi Dayanand University in 1977 after the name of a great visionary and social reformer, Maharshi Dayanand. It had a unitary and residential character in its nascent stage, but became an affiliating University in November 1978. The University secured the recognition of University Grants Commission – the higher education regulatory body of India – for central Govt. grant in Feb. 1983.

The University is located at Rohtak in the state of Haryana – about 75 kms from Delhi on Delhi-Hisar National Highway (NH-10), and is about 240 kms from Chandigarh, the State Capital. It is well connected both by rail as well as road. Rohtak is the education hub of the State with excellent facilities for education in all fields of knowledge.

The University campus, spread over an area of over 665.44 acres, is well laid with state-of-the-art buildings and magnificent road network, and presents a spectacle of harmony in architecture and natural beauty. Educational and research programmes are offered through its 36 departments. There are as many as 10 Teaching Blocks, 10 Hostels with another 10 in the offing, an elegant Vivekananda Library with 6 off-shoots, the majestic Tagore Auditorium equipped with modern gadgetry and amenities, spectacular Students Activities Centre, Campus School, Health Centre, Faculty House, Sports Stadium, Swimming Pool, Multipurpose Gymnasium Hall, Community Centre, Printing Press, Canteens, Shopping Complex, and an Administrative Block. About 550 residential units are available for the faculty members and non-teaching staff. The proposed Lala Ami Chand Monga Memorial Group of Institutions (College of Education), Ugala (Ambala) is run under Lala Ami Chand Monga Memorial Group of Institutions, Ugala. Keeping in view the growing demand of the trained teachers in the state of Haryana, the trust took a grant step and decided to set up a B.Ed. College in the year 2006.
