Title: Need to direct State Government of Orissa to formulate contingency Plans to help agricultural operation in the State.-Laid
SHRI ARJUN SETHI (BHADRAK): Sir, due to less rainfall and continuous dry spells in the month of June and July, 1998 in Orissa in general and in the districts of Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar in particular, the prospect of Kharif crops has receded in the current year. Whatever sowing have been undertaken in unirrigated lands of the areas mentioned are being dried up. As a result, no agricultural operation have yet been started. The labourers, marginal, small and other category of poor people are becoming unemployed and have migrated to other States for earning their livelihood. Hence, I urge upon the Central Government to direct the State Government to save the people by providing them the employment and formulating a contingency plans to help agricultural operations in the State.
