Need To Provide Special Grant To The Government Of Maharashtra For … on 19 December, 2001

Title: Need to provide special grant to the Government of Maharashtra for providing better civic amenities at Nagpur city-Laid.

SHRI VILAS MUTTEMWAR

(NAGPUR) : Nagpur which is the second capital of Maharashtra has been one of India’s fastest growing city. The population of Nagpur has grown tremendously during the last few years which is now more than 34 lakhs. It has become the regional centre for higher education and many important judicial and financial institutions and scores of blue chip companies have established their office in the city.

With the growth in the industrial and trade activities, there has been a large migration of population from the adjoining districts and from the rural areas to Nagpur in search of livelihood. Consequently, large number of slum clusters have come up all over the city to accommodate these poor migrants. This has put great stress on the authorities to maintain its neat, clean, green and beautiful city because of the scarce resources at its disposal.

I would, therefore, urge upon the Central Government to come to the rescue of the Nagpur administration to provide a special grant of Rs. 100 crores as has been done in the case of Mumbai so that the Nagpur city does not lack in providing the required essential services to the people.
